{I'm trying really hard not to start posts with the word, "So.."}
I was relaying a story to my husband the other day and he used the phrase, "Blind to our own condition..." That struck me as an interesting phrase and one that I have never thought of. But it's true, right...? We can be so quick to nail others for their pride, deceitfulness, disobedient, irreverent, selfish ways... usually, I find, that I am the same way [if not worse] than the person I think is committing such a deed...
I do want to throw this out here...
the definition of "discern"...
"to distinguish or discriminate." (dictionary.com)
"discriminate" .... "to note or observe a difference." (dictionary.com)
Remember that the Bible is a discerner of the heart (Hebrews 4)...
Galatians 6:1 provides some enlightenment... "Bretheren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."
Fault, according the Websters Dictionary, is an error, missing, defect, etc...
Note that we are to restore them in Meekness (an attitude of being humble), and to consider your own self, lest you are also tempted to do the same as they...
...think about it.
Ironically, the situation had nothing to do with these negatives, but it's truly an interesting study, and one that I need to further...
until later....
Along with that, in the Galatians 6:1 verse, consider that the word "ye" is used instead of "you." And think about what the "ye" means versus "you."
ReplyDeleteI have often said that we lie to ourselves more than we do to others....
I like that term. Very good point. It is so easy to point a finger at someone else. I think we often do it to lessen or justify our own faults, when in reality we should be looking inward. Getting the beam out of our own eye.
